Everything was fine until they wanted to have a second Mac be able to access the three QB database files on the primary Mac a week ago. About half of the tutorials have an average runtime of five minutes or less, and the longest tutorial is slightly less than 14 minutes long.I rarely work on Mac networks, but one of my clients bought out his cousin's office that uses Macs, and I got them set up on QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020 back in January 2020. You should plan at least two hours to complete the first lesson, which includes 15 video tutorials. There are 46 tutorials in our QuickBooks Online tutorial, spanning eight lessons.
![]() There Are No Users Setup For This File Quickbooks Password Just LikeShe gets an error stating, "QuickBooks could not update your company file! Your system may be low on disk space. The volume that contains your company is inaccessible and may be low on space. The secondary user can access the three QB data files and make most changes needed, with the exception of checks. The issue comes when User2 tries to save a check. The QuickBooks Server 2020 is running on the main Mac and has the database files shared. I then went through the main Mac's System Preferences to share the QuickBooksDataFiles folder that I created on the main Mac user's desktop, and I made sure that it had the main Mac user's name, the secondary Mac user's name, and Everyone set to Read & Write permissions on that folder and the files within it. Solution 3: Resolve data damage on your company file.On the main Mac, I added the secondary Mac user's name and password just like I would do if it were two Win 10 computers in a workgroup.Over and over again.Intuit tech support sent us an article on how to do it, and it was the same article I have already used ( ) that fails to work completely. To reiterate, the two issues are that the folder permissions keeping reverting to Read only, and the problem with saving a check for User2.I hope we have some QuickBooks and Mac users in here!I am probably way overthinking this issue. I change it again, it looks good, then it reverts back to Read only. Please choose a different location to save your company file."One thing I have seen happen multiple times is that the sharing permissions on the primary Mac keep changing from Everyone having Read & Write to having Read only. Here’s how.On the host computer, sign in to your company file as the admin.Go to File, then select Enable Multiuser Mode. The workstations can now access the company file on the No Company Open window or Shared Files section."So, do I only need to enable multi-user mode on the main Mac, or also on the one that will access the files that reside on the main Mac?Also, do you have any idea why the folder share permissions keep reverting to Read only vs. It also states:"Turn on multiuser mode on the host computer to start sharing the file. Does this require a multi-user license? I don't use multi-user mode in my QB 2015 on my Windows server and accessing/opening the files form QB on two Win 10 workstations (only one person has QB open at any given time). The article noted above says to buy a multi-user license, but the client only will have one user in QB at a time, so I don't think that is necessary.it's not need in Windows, anyway. Is that process incorrect? That is exactly what I do on my own network.I am going to call the client in a few minutes to have her select File > Switch to multi-user mode. It then lets me select from where I will open it, and I browse to the file on the main Mac. The QB Server is running and the files are shared on that computer. I just accessed their computers and opened QB on the main Mac (server-workstation), then set it to Enable Multi-user mode. The other Mac is a workstation-only setup. It works perfectly. On the client's Mac network, one user's Mac is used to house the file and to use QB, so it is a server-workstation setup. Neither workstation has its own QB set to multi-user mode. So you cannot expect that it works 1 way for Windows set up, it will work for Mac setup.I don't expect them to be identical, but I do expect something as simple as setting a folder permission for "Everyone" to "Read & Write" to actually STAY set that way and not revert as it darn well pleases back to Read only. Lots of stuff built for Windows then workarounds made for Mac. This setup is SO EASY TO DO on Windows, even without putting QB into multi-user mode.Thats the diff between windows & mac. Please choose a different location to save your company file."This error happens in all three of their QB data files and ONLY when trying to save a check.I see no security software running or 3rd party "security apps" installed that give warnings or stops "sharing to all".I think I am going to give up and just move them to QB online. QuickBooks still has an updated copy of your company file that can be saved to a new location. The volume that contains your company is inaccessible and may be low on space. Download games with utorrent for macThe client had a tech from Apple there and he couldn't get it to work AND persist across a reboot. Is that an Intuit problem or an Apple problem?I first encountered Apple networking when trying to set a static route on a Mac 20 years ago. They wrote it so it would work, but it appears not to do so. That's $1440/year with three company files and using QB Online Essentials.I am going to try to find a local Mac tech to handle this issue.Thats why if you noticed people here who use QB usually use it on a Windows machine and to save cost, they RDP into the server (VM) or PC (physical PC or lappy). The only reason I have this Mac client is because it's related to another client that uses Windows like everyone else I support. Sadly, Apple networking appears not to have been improved since then!I guess if no one has any more input, I'll recommend QB Online."I guess if no one has any more input, I'll recommend QB Online."So much for that idea! GOOD GRIEF, their prices are nuts! This client has three company files, and to use QB Online, they will need a separate QB Online subscription for EACH company file. He got REALLY ANGRY as I teased him what a wonderful OS that Mac was running where it couldn't even do a basic persistent static route. On my Windows client, they moved from QuickBooks Pro 2010 desktop with four company files to QuickBooks Pro 2020 desktop in January 2020.
